Fast, Beautiful, More Features: Pair 1.4
The team here at Pair HQ has been working non-stop for the last few months on a really great update for our really great users. We’re very excited to say that Pair 1.4 is now available in the App Store for your downloading pleasure. Let’s rewind a bit to see how we got here.
Back in January, we were five guys trying to come up with a great idea for a new product. Our biggest problem at the time was that we were in long distance relationships with girls that were starting to get pretty annoyed with our lack of contact. One day, it just clicked that the problem we should be trying to solve was the one that was staring us right in the face: we should be trying to help couples communicate better!
After three months filled with long days and many all nighters, we released the first version of Pair and were absolutely blown away by the response. It looked like we weren’t the only ones in trouble for not keeping in touch with their partners :)
Pair is a pretty complex app with a lot of moving parts, and three months is a short amount of time. We got Pair to where it needed to be for release, but we did sacrifice a few things along the way. With Pair 1.4, a lot of those things have been fixed.
Fast
As the makers of Pair, we are also some of its most active users. So we feel the pain of slow timelines. In this update, we really tried to make the whole timeline experience faster and more smooth. If you have a very big timeline, you should immediately notice a difference in the time it takes to load, and the smoothness of the scrolling.
Beautiful
The biggest change you’ll notice is that we’ve done a fairly substantial refresh of the user interface. Pair green, is now Pair blue. We decided to move to a text-based read receipt instead of greying out your avatar. The sending progress indicator when you send a photo, sketch, or video is now much nicer, and if a message fails to send, the indicator is now much less intrusive. Also, if you send more than one message in a row, we’ve added a nice little indicator so you can tell where the previous message ends and the next one begins. We’ve also made the sign up process significantly nicer.

More Features
We added a couple really great features to the new version of Pair. First, you can now send your partner audio notes! Your partner will love it if you send them an audio note to say “Good night!” when you’re away on work. This was a frequently requested feature, and we’re all about giving our users what they want. Audio notes are currently iOS only, but don’t worry, Android support is on the way!
We also know that music tends to be a big part of many couples lives, and so we’ve started to think about how we can add some aspect of it into Pair. With Pair 1.4, we’ve added the ability to see what song your partner is currently listening to. This is a small feature, but we think it could be really important. It’s the first step of many in our effort to add music into Pair.

We think Pair 1.4 is awesome, and we hope you will too! Get it now on the App Store, and let us know what you think on Twitter (@Pair), Facebook, or send us an email at hello@trypair.com
